When I think of nature, the first thing that comes to my mind is camping in the mountains as a little girl. It was a tradition for my family to take a trip up to the mountains every year during the fall. I initially think of the beautiful winding roads, filled with colorful trees on either side, which led up to the cabin where we would stay. I recall watching squirrels run up those trees as the orange, yellow, and red leaves were falling down them. I remember being fascinated by the gorgeous waterfalls and intrigued by the mysterious bugs that crawled all around. Most importantly, I think of how comfortable and at-peace I was there, while away from the hustle of everyday life.
Nature is almost like an escape for me. It is a place where I can go to forget about what is going on in the world, or what problems I may be having, and to reset my mind to what is important. Do not get me wrong; I definitely appreciate most aspects of technology. Although technology helps to make my busy life a little bit easier, it is truthfully refreshing to get off the phone and take a walk on a trail through the woods. I can come as I naturally am and nature does not judge me. It is an environment that does not have any expectations of me. I can breath in nature, for I am a part of it.
Although I view nature as the typical, much-needed getaway from the city, it is so much more than that. As I think more in-depth as to what nature is, I begin to think of it as the universe as a whole. To me, it is all of God's creations that have not been modified by man. It consists of something so small, such as microscopic organisms, to something so massive like the stars in our universe. It contains peaceful and gentle properties, as well as forceful and dangerous ones. It is mind-blowing to think of how everything works together to create such a diverse universe.
Nature has always been a captivating aspect of life for me. I have always taken great pleasure in the remarkable qualities that nature has to offer me. It is something so serene and simple, yet so powerful and complex. It can be just a simple walk in the woods, a camping trip to the mountains, or just trying to imagine the massivity of outside of the earth that reminds me that life is much more than the busy, technological world today.
